Eligibility and guidelines

The Splash Awards Competition is open to all organisations and individuals involved in designing, building, managing, maintaining, marketing, or promoting Drupal websites. The following competition rules and guidelines apply to Splash Awards submissions.

Terms and Conditions of entry/usage

  • Registration is open to everyone for the fee of CHF 250 per project. For small agencies (with up to 3 employees), freelancers, or non-profit organizations, the fee is CHF 50. The fee also includes 2 tickets to the event.

  • A project may be assigned multiple categories when you submit the project. The jury will take the final decision to which of the categories the project gets assigned to. In contrast to previous editions, we decided that a project will only compete in one of the categories.

  • Each company is allowed to submit a maximum of three projects for the Swiss Splash Awards.

  • All entries must be original and the entrant either owns the work or has permission from a client or other appropriate party to enter the work, with all rights granted therein. In the event that an entrant without such rights submits an entry, the entrant will not be eligible for the competition. The Splash Awards are not liable for any copyright infringement on the part of the entrant.

  • If a project has been entered at a previous Splash Award Switzerland, it can not be submitted again to the same event.

  • The project requires to be lively accessible. Members of the jury should be able to evaluate projects as would any user of the website or system. For tools and platforms that require a login, submissions should also contain login credentials consistent with the experience of actual users. If they are not provided, the project will be judged on the screenshots and project video that is submitted.

  • Entries must have been live and in general use within at least one of the years 2023 to 2024.

  • Submission of any entry acknowledges the right of the Splash Awards to use it for exhibition, promotion, and publication purposes in any medium, in order to promote the Splash Awards or Drupal.

  • Submitting a project does not guarantee that the event will be held. In case the event is cancelled, your submission will also be annulled.

  • For Splash Awards Switzerland, the organisation submitting a project, or their client, must be registered as a legal entity in Switzerland or Liechtenstein.

Nominations and judging

  • Entries and answers have to be formulated in English.

  • The professional jury assesses all submitted projects (see the criteria). Per category, the criteria are weighted differently.

  • Per category, the 4 projects with the highest average score will be nominated for the award.

  • Within each category, a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 4 projects will be nominated for a Splash Award. In case of a tie for the 4th place, those projects will all be nominated for the Splash Award in that category, causing the number of nominees to be greater than 4.

  • If there are less than 3 entries per category, this category will lapse. If a category lapses, all participants will be notified and offered the option to move to a different category at no extra costs.

  • The project with the highest average score in a category will win the first prize in that category.

  • The project with the second-highest average score in a category will win the second prize in that category.

  • In case of a tie for the winner in a category, the jury will discuss the projects and hold a second voting round.

  • In case of a tie for the runner up, both projects will win a second prize.

  • Independent of the categories, a first and second prize for the “project of the year” will be awarded. Here, the weighting of the criteria is equally distributed.

Unacceptable material

  • Entries that contain pornographic material, propagate “hate” messages, make defamatory statements, or which are otherwise extraordinarily offensive are not eligible.

Disqualification

  • Entries that contain pornographic material, propagate “hate” messages, make defamatory statements, or which are otherwise offensive are not eligible and will be disqualified.

  • Ineligible entries may be disqualified at any phase of the competition without notification.

Code of Conduct

The Splash Awards Switzerland follow the Drupal Switzerland Community's Code of Conduct. Please follow those guidelines. As a reminder, we will include an abstract of the code of conduct on how we intend to resolve conflicts.

Conflicts in our community can take many forms. Disagreements, social and technical, are normal, but we do not allow them to persist and fester leaving others uncertain of the agreed direction.

We expect individuals to first try to resolve conflicts between themselves in a constructive manner, asking for help when needed. This approach gives people more control over the outcome of their dispute.

If that fails, we escalate the matter to structures with designated leaders to step in and provide clarity and direction. When conflicts do arise there is a thought-out and agreed process for resolving them: Conflict Resolution Policy.

We will not tolerate bullying or harassment of any member of the Drupal community.

If you feel threatened or violated as a result of intimidating, bullying, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory, or demeaning conduct, please speak up and ask it to stop. If you do not feel that you can speak up, contact the Community Working Group immediately with evidence of the incident. Incidents of bullying and harassment can be reported privately and will be treated seriously and discreetly. Use this Incident Report Form.

Please speak up if you notice someone else being subjected to such behaviour. Refer people to our Code of Conduct and point out such behaviour is unwelcome.
